Increase Self Esteem

May 8th, 2009

It was Dr Abraham H Maslow PhD of Brandeis University who first drew our awareness to the human need for self esteem, in his 1954 book: Motivation and Personality, Brandeis University Press, in which he presented his theory of a hierarchy of human needs.

Here is an article about how to boost, improve and increase your self esteem.

BUILD YOUR SELF ESTEEM, A STARTER GUIDE TO SELF IMPROVEMENT

So how do you stay calm, composed and maintain self esteem in a tough environment? Here are some tips you may want to consider as a starter guide to self improvement through personal growth.

Imagine yourself as a Dart Board. Everything and everyone else around you may become Dart Pins, at one point or another. These dart pins will destroy your self esteem and pull you down in ways you won’t even remember. Don’t let them destroy you, or get the better of you!  So which dart pins should you avoid?

Dart Pin #1 : Negative Work Environment
Beware of “dog eat dog” theory where everyone else is fighting just to get ahead. This is where non-appreciative people usually thrive. No one will appreciate your contributions even if you miss lunch and dinner, and stay up late. Most of the time you get to work too much without getting help from people concerned.  Stay out of this, it will ruin your self esteem. Competition is at stake anywhere. Be healthy enough to compete, but in a healthy competition that is.

Dart Pin #2: Other People’s Behavior
Bulldozers, brown nosers, gossipmongers, whiners, backstabbers, snipers, people walking wounded, controllers, naggers, complainers, exploders, patronizers, sluffers… all these kinds of people will pose bad vibes for your self esteem, as well as to your self improvement scheme.

Dart Pin #3: Changing Environment
You can’t be a green bug on a brown field. Changes challenge our paradigms. It tests our flexibility, adaptability and alters the way we think. Changes will make life difficult for a while. They may cause stress but it will help us find ways to improve our selves. Change will be there forever constantly, we must be open and susceptible to it.

Dart Pin #4: Past Experience
It’s okay to cry and say “ouch!” when we experience pain. But don’t let pain transform itself into fear. It might grab you by the tail and swing you around. Treat each failure and mistake as a lesson. Fail faster in smaller ways. Keep testing and experimenting until you strike success!

Dart Pin #5: Negative World View
Look at what you’re looking at. Don’t wrap yourself up with all the negativities of the world. In building self esteem, we must learn how to make the best out of worst situations. Get positive and focus on what you do want and CAN do!

Dart Pin #6: Determination Theory
The way you are and your behavioral traits is said to be a mixed end product of your inherited traits (genetics), your upbringing (nurture), and your environmental surroundings such as your spouse, the company, the economy and your circle of friends. You have your own identity. If your father is a failure, it doesn’t mean you have to be a failure too. Learn from other people’s experience, so you’ll never have to encounter the same mistakes. Learn from multiple sources all throughout the day, every day!

Sometimes, you may want to wonder if some people are born leaders or positive thinkers. NO. Being positive, and staying positive is a choice. Building self esteem and drawing lines for self improvement is a choice, not a rule or a talent. God wouldn’t come down from heaven and tell you – “George, you may now have the permission to build self esteem and improve your self.”   Life is a self-help project.

In life, its hard to stay tough, especially when things and people around you appear to keep pulling you down. When we get to the battle field, we should choose the right luggage to bring and armors to use, and pick those that are bullet proof. Life’s options give us arrays of more options. Throughout the battle, we will get hit and bruised. And wearing a bullet proof armor ideally means ‘self change’. The kind of change which comes spiritually or intuitively from within. Voluntarily. Armor or Self Change changes 3 things: our attitude, our behavior and our way of thinking.

Building self esteem will eventually lead to self improvement if we start to become responsible for who we are, what we have and what we do. Its like a flame that should gradually spread like a brush fire from inside and out. When we develop self esteem, we take control of our mission, values and discipline.  Self esteem brings about self improvement, true self assessment and determination. So how do you start putting up the building blocks of self esteem? Be positive. Be contented, grateful and happy. Be appreciative. Never miss an opportunity to compliment someone. A positive way of living will help you build self esteem, your starter guide to self improvement.

Remember this: there is nothing ‘out there’ except the projection of your innermost thoughts, feelings and emotions. So you are actively creating your experience of life with your own positive thoughts, feelings, emotions and such.

Aha! You realize you alone are responsible for your life. NOW - start loving yourself and re-constructing your living renewal. Self esteem results from these new psychological skills: Right intention, right emotion, visualization and right action.

Success Follows Self Improvement

May 5th, 2009

If you want Success in your business life, your home life and relationships, then continuing to read this article is a very wise move. Smart action… here’s a GIFT (3)

The world is a large room or ‘training ground’ for lessons, often through errors and mistakes. Don’t feel stupid and doomed forever just because you failed on a science quiz.. or a marketing test. There’s always a next time. Make room for self improvement. Expand your little scientist’s testing grounds.

Set meaningful and achievable goals. Self improvement doesn’t turn you to be the exact replica of Cameron Diaz or Ralph Fiennes. It hopes and aims to result to an improved and better YOU. Start from where you are right now. Improve one step at a time!

Hey - Little things can mean something BIG to other people. Sometimes, we don’t realize that the little things that we do like a pat on the back, saying “hi” or “hello”, greeting someone “good day” or telling Mr. Smith something like “hey, I love your tie!” are simple things that mean so much to other people. When we’re being appreciative about beautiful things around us and other people, we also become beautiful to them.

Everything that happens to us happens for a purpose. And sometimes, one thing leads to another. Instead of locking yourself up in your cage of fears and crying over past heartaches, embarrassment and failures, treat them as your teachers and they will become your tools in both self improvement and success.

What are The Benefits of Self Improvement?

Self improvement results in inner stability, psychological growth, personality development and dig this …. SUCCESS.  It comes from self confidence, self appreciation and self esteem. How you see yourself. And remember it is incremental so enjoy each next tiny step in the right direction - towards happy accomplishment and goal attainment. You CAN do it.
